Course Description

"Tense" in English grammar refers to the form of a verb that shows the time when an action or state of being occurs. English has three main tenses: past, present, and future. Each tense can be further divided into four aspects: simple, continuous (also called progressive), perfect, and perfect continuous.

  1. Simple Present Tense: This tense is used to describe actions that are happening right now or habitual actions. It's formed by adding "-s" or "-es" to the base form of the verb for third-person singular subjects.

    • Example: She plays tennis every Sunday.
  2. Present Continuous Tense: This tense describes actions that are ongoing at the moment of speaking. It's formed by using the present tense of the verb "to be" (am, is, are) followed by the present participle (-ing form) of the main verb.

    • Example: They are studying for their exams.
  3. Present Perfect Tense: This tense indicates actions that were completed at some indefinite time in the past or actions that started in the past and continue into the present. It's formed by using the present tense of the verb "to have" (have/has) followed by the past participle of the main verb.
